Saying farewell......

As you all know (well those of you who happen to still be reading), it has been a long 6 months since I last posted. I didn't want to leave it so long, but I have had some big decisions to make and much soul searching has been done in regards to my diet and my health.

I won't go into great detail but being unable to to eat beans, lentils, any fruit, limited dairy, limited wholegrains and limited vegetables didn't leave much to eat except rice, sugar, white flour, nuts and seitan. As much as I wanted to I just could not make a totally vegetarian diet work for me. So I have had to sacrifice my my beliefs in order to keep myself healthy.

Do not get me wrong. I still believe that a totally vegetarian (this includes vegan diets) diet is more than sufficient for people to be fit, well and healthy on, it just doesn't work for my body with it's numerous dietary limitations.

I do miss blogging and I miss all of you a lot. I tossed up what to do about writing this post, if I should be honest, how I'd feel about the inevitable judgement for going back on my morals and I thought about starting a whole new blog. But I know that deep down 99% of you have no interest in what I cook these days and while I find some of it delicious, it's more often than not a case of trying to distract myself while choking down something I've tried to disguise and it's hard to blog when you have little enjoyment from what you are putting in your mouth.

Who knows, sometime in the not to distant future I might just come back to blogging. I don't want to make this a goodbye, more of an I hope to see you later.

Thank you so much to you all for reading my blog, leaving me comments and friending me on facebook for those who have. Your support and caring has meant so much to me and kept me battling on diet wise, long after I think I would have given up had I not had such beautiful and wonderful people backing me up.

I hope to see you in the future and I am still here reading most of the blogs I have always read, just a little quieter.

Farewell for now dear friends

Amy

Just editing to add that Rhys contacted me and asked for an interview for his blog, so for those of you who are interested in knowing a little more about my reasons for having to give away my vegetarianism you can find it here: Let Them Eat Meat Interview

I support you 100%!!! I'm making quite a few changes myself for my health as well... I've got your back :)

Johanna GGG

hi vegetation (amy) that is sad that you can't eat as you would like but I hope you can still find some dishes to inspire you.

I miss seeing your posts and all the interesting foods you eat and am sad that you have decided to stop blogging but hope some time in the future we might enjoy hearing about your food again

Tami (Vegan Appetite)

Amy, sending you loving thoughts in finding what works for you. Stay in touch!!!!

Andrea

I've enjoyed reading your blog and wish you well in your new direction. Sometimes our bodies don't cooperate with our minds, and we just have to do whatever works. Good luck.

veganefcliz

Oh Amy, this is so sad to read. I feel for you, I really do. When my husband tested for gluten intolerance it nearly finished me, so I can't imagine how bad you must feel. Please keep in touch, find me on FB (Liz Wyman) and remember what great fun we had doing AVK testing. There is hope. xxxxxxxx

Sarena Shasteen - The Non-Dairy Queen

You know I am behind you 100% and I am glad we are in touch even if it has nothing to do with food! There is more to life...right?! I just want you to be healthy and happy!

Emily

Your health is most important and you need to take care of yourself. No one should criticize you for taking care of yourself.

I wish you well.

Jamie

Hi Amy, I did notice that you hadn't updated in ages. Sorry to hear that your health hadn't improved - but I hope you get on much better with the change in diet. I can imagine what a difficult decision it must have been, but you are the only person who can take care of yourself so you need to do what you can to be healthy again, not just for you, but for the family you take care of. Best wishes & good luck xx

Caroline

sorry to hear that - your blog has been on my bookmarks for quite a while. I also suffer from soya intolerance and also yeast inbalance and also had to give up being a veggie as a result. Do what gets you healthy! If your body needs animal protein then don't feel guilty - i try to buy organic or freedom foods to counteract my guilt :)

snugglebunny

Sorry to hear this. I had been wondering why you hadn't been up at PPK, now I know why.

However, one must do what one needs to keep one healthy, as I am sure your husband and children will agree.

Jeni Treehugger

Be well my friend. A healthy body is THE most important thing.
xx

Oh, Vegetation, I'll miss you! I feel you on the diet front - being a soy-free veg*n was just too much for me, and I've recently gone back to eggs and fish myself (didn't want to, but I feel so much better now). I can't imagine what it would be like to live with such a limiting diet as your old one.

I hope you're feeling better now. And as for future blogging - go for it! I, for one, would be very interested in what you make - I'm still feeding an omni household as well as my pescetarian self :)

Cheers, and good luck!

eatme_delicious

Aw I'm sad to hear that you won't be blogging here anymore. It's understandable that you had to change your diet in order to take care of yourself - you have to be healthy! Good luck with everything and let me know if you do start a new blog.

Mandee

I think it's good you were honest and no one should judge you for making the best decision based on your situation. I'll see you on fb! xox

Vegetation

Awww you guys! Thank you so much for supporting me in this. I'm so glad that you are here for me no matter what my dietary preferences (or requirements as the case may be).

You all really do mean the world to me and I'll miss all your comments and the communication terribly!

Ricki

So sorry to hear about this! I know how hard it can be to stay enthused about food when you feel as if so many of your favorites have been taken away. Good luck with all the dietary changes, and I hope you're back to 100% wellness soon! Will miss your posts. :)

Vegetation

Thank you Ricki!! xx

Hannah

I am sad to hear this, and sorry that you won't be blogging anymore, but you know what's best for yourself and should certainly keep your health as top priority. I wish you only the best on this journey, and support you all the way, like everyone else here! :)

Dawn

Hey girlie! I had been away from blog/message board world for a while and wondered why I hadn't seen you. I just found this when looking through my followed blogs. Hope you are feeling well. Miss you!

Veg-In-Training

I'm so sorry to hear about your struggles. I have started to have some issues that I fear may be diet related too. We'll see how it goes.

I'm sure there will be some vegan dishes you will make and enjoy (even if you are eating other things). Blog the vegan ones for sure. I'm not 100% vegan, but my blog is. Wow that sounds like one of those commercials. I'm not a vegan but I play one on my blog. LOL. Enjoy life and be healthy

nazarina

Hi Amy, my favorite Aussie blogger sister,

Thank you for your visit, I have missed you! I suspected that you were struggling with your diet. I am so sorry! Eat everything in moderation, meditate, exercise & do whatever it takes to keep yourself healthy! I do not blog as often as I used to because of obvious reasons but I do from time to time because it keeps me sane!
I do appreciate your predicament!

Ashley

I just stumbled on your blog, but I wanted to leave my two cents.

I had to do the same thing when I was faced with my yearly blood test results and knew that I would not be able to keep up with a health vegetarian/vegan diet consisting mostly of Lean Cuisines and oatmeal. My iron, B12, vitamin D, and calcium were all disgustingly low. I know that I could have remedied all of those with a properly balanced vegan diet, but working 40 hours a week coupled with 15 hours of class + 10 hours of homework a week (not to mention the running/strength training) left me so drained.

I know that many vegans/vegetarians would denounce me for it, but eating meat a few times a week has done WONDERS for my health and well-being. I do what works for me, and so should you. :)
